At last the weather and transport gods aligned for members of SUGC (Southampton University Gliding Club). Having first sampled the delights of flying at Rivar Hill back in November it has taken until now to be able to get back for one of the few flying days. However, the weather gods still had a trick up their sleeve – fog. Very slow to burn off and it was 12:30 before the first launch.
Lots of members results in lots of cars
With so many members on the list it was a single flight for everybody on offer. We did eventually get through the list so those who stuck around to the end were able to get in a second flight. In the main just the odd scraps of lift around to slightly extend the flights – unless your name was Alan. Alan P took longest flight honours in his Skylark with 43 minutes and Alan B with 27 minutes in the K8. As the wind backed towards the north launches to 2,000′ were available in the K8.
Despite the late start we managed 29 launches and 23 folks flew (including new members, father and son team of Tris and Xavier)
