Saturday 17th – Who needs an aerotow…

pdinham

…when launches to over 2,000′ (2 up in a K13) are available off the winch?

With a lively north wind we got to play on the ridge.  The “we” was a surprisingly small number of folks.  Phil M was late (well, late for him) arriving at the field at 9:30 but still managed to be the first there – he was concerned he’d got his days mixed up and should have been at work.  Slowly others drifted in until we had enough to operate.  Phil M and Carol P rigged their Janus and were first to launch and worked the ridge for 25 minutes.  The ridge lift was not entirely consistent and the”sweet spots” were in different places in different flights but most manage to take advantage of at least some ridge lift.  The time of the first launch stood as the target for a couple of hours until Martin S clocked up 27 minutes on his first taste of ridge flying.  The Janus boys took their freebie launch to try and recapture the soaring supremo of the day title but returned after 19 minutes.  On the last flight in the Vega Steve B made a valiant attempt with 26 minutes.
