The Half-Day experience is an extended version of our basic trial lesson. We'll start with the ground school part of the lesson where you will be shown the aircraft, have an explanation of the controls and a briefing on how we operate the airfield and the launch. This will be followed by up to four flights (to give approximately 40 mins of flight time) in a two seater glider with one of our experienced instructors. Once in the air, you will be shown the primary effects of the controls and, if you are happy, you will fly part of the flight. The extended flying time will give plenty of opportunity for you to become familiar with the basic process of flying a glider.

Gliding Experience flyers also get 28 days temporary membership of Shalbourne Gliding allowing them to fly at our regular member rates. Visit us again within that period to extend your membership to 56 days.

For those who think gliding may be for them and want a more intensive introduction than a one-day package, Flying Start is the perfect answer. For a modest investment you will get a deep-dive into gliding and many of the fun and challenging aspects of learning to become a soaring pilot within a social and supportive club environment.

Features of the Flying Start package:
3 months membership of Shalbourne Gliding 10 Launches Included in the package price to be taken within those 3 months Flying times cannot be guaranteed but for training flights in the soaring season a reasonable expectation would be between 100 and 150 minutes of flying time All flying fees associated with those launches are included up to a limit of 200 minutes after which any remaining launches from the 10 will continue to be free but flying time will be charged at standard club rates
Everyone learns at different speeds but after 10 training flights we might expect a novice pilot to be comfortable handling the glider in upper air and be able to plan and fly circuits around the airfield.

We offer a discounted rate for people aged 25 years or under. Select the correct age group in the option box before adding this product to your cart.

Within the three months, you can, of course, buy additional launches and flying time at normal rates for members or this package can be upgraded to a full annual membership by paying for the additional 9 months. If the weather prevents us flying on sufficient days to complete 10 flights within the 3 month period, we will extend it for a reasonable additional period at the club's discretion.
