Site Information

Located on top of the downs in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Shalbourne enjoys excellent soaring from thermals and our North-facing ridge. It is a large, safe site and ideally placed for good local soaring and cross-country flights.

The club is easily accessible from the M4 and M3 and less than an hour from most major towns in the area. We are cleared to launch by winch to 3,000 feet. Please note that powered aircraft and powered gliders are strictly prohibited from this site.

Safety First!

When you visit by car or on foot, come to where the gliders are launching - when you are sure nothing is landing or taking-off. Remember, the airfield is active, use the field edges and always keep a good look-out for gliders, vehicles and cables. If in doubt wait to be escorted.

The airfield is about five miles south of Hungerford, one field back from the ridge. A line of pylons lies just beyond the southern boundary. The hangar stands out well with its bright new roof. Trailers are often visible as a double check. It is probably the longest 1:7 ratio N-S ratio field in the vicinity.
