Membership and Trial Lesson Fees A trial lesson consists of a pre-flight briefing and a flight of approximately 30 minutes, or two flights if the first is short (due to weather conditions for example). The cost is £55, which includes one month's introductory membership of the club. To book a trial lesson at Shalbourne, please contact Steve or phone 01962 883581. You are also welcome to just turn up at a weekend or bank holiday; we are usually able to provide a lesson at short notice. However, please note that we cannot accept cards at the airfield, so please bring cash or a cheque. |

Vouchers make an ideal gift for relatives or friends. Vouchers are valid for a year from the date of purchase, and include a period of introductory membership during which flying is charged at club members' rates.

Launches are by means of a ground-based winch. Flight times will vary according to weather conditions and are quoted as a guide, not guaranteed. Like all aviation experiences gliding is subject to unforeseen constraints, so all bookings are subject to availability of instructors, aircraft and weather.
There is a maximum height restriction of 6'4" (1.93m) and a maximum
weight limit of 16 stone (224 lbs or 102 kg).
A course is a good way to start gliding. Aircraft and instructor are assigned to a maximum of three students, enabling rapid progress.
Five-day 'Learn to Glide' Course - £420 (club members £320)
Course fee includes: all flying and instruction (one instructor per 3 students); 'Gliding' book by Derek Piggott (or equivalent), logbook, sandwich lunch, tea and coffee.
Gliding is a weather-dependent sport. We guarantee all briefings and 25 winch launches, if this is not achieved we offer free membership and launches on subsequent flying days to complete the course.
One-day 'Introduction to Gliding' Course - £120 (club members £90)
Course fee includes: all flying and instruction (one instructor per 3 students); course pack consisting of briefing notes, logbook sheet and club CD; refreshments, sandwich lunch and tea/coffee.
Gliding is a weather-dependent sport. In the event of complete cancellation due to weather, the day will be rearranged to a mutually convenient date for group bookings, individual bookings will be rebooked on another course day. We guarantee all briefings and five winch launches, if this is not achieved we offer free membership and launches on a subsequent flying day to complete the course.
One-day 'Improve your Gliding' Course - £100 (club members £75)
Beginners might wish to add a day onto the 'Introduction to Gliding' day; more advanced pilots may choose a day of concentrated instruction.
Course fee includes: all flying and instruction (one instructor per 3 students); Starter Pack consisting of logbook, club information, car window sticker, Laws and Rules for Glider Pilots; refreshments, sandwich lunch and tea/coffee.
Gliding is a weather-dependent sport. In the event of complete cancellation due to weather, the day will be rearranged to a mutually convenient date for group bookings, individual bookings will be rebooked on another course day. We guarantee all briefings and five winch launches, if this is not achieved we offer free membership and launches on a subsequent flying day to complete the course.
